Winter 2020-21 Season Canceled Dear Regina Coeli CYO Families,
As you may recall, a few weeks ago I sent an email stating that our CYO season was being delayed. While there was the possibility of holding a season that started in January, I was not optimistic. Yesterday we received notice from the CYONY office that the winter basketball season has indeed been canceled. As the CYO director, I believe this is the right decision. It is a decision that puts the health and safety of our players - and you as their parents - as the priority. As a parent, I know the role that CYO plays in my children's lives; teaching not only basketball skills, but also sportsmanship and teamwork. I am saddened that your children and my children will lose this opportunity this year. Hopefully, many of us will return to CYO for the Winter 2021-22 season, but I want to take a moment to recognize the following groups who are losing their final year of eligibility:
-
Our 12th grade boys in the high school league
-
Our 8th grade girls
-
Our 8th grade boys travel team (although these players are able to join our intramural high school league next year)
-
Our volunteer coaches who will be stepping down as their own children leave our program. We’ll be losing some fantastic coaches, who have been great role models.
I thank you all for your support this year and in the past. I also want to thank Fr. Michael Morris, who has supported our program, knowing its value to our parishioners and friends.
Finally, if you haven’t done so already, I invite you to “like” the Regina Coeli CYO Facebook page. I’ll be sharing any other local basketball opportunities, summer camps, etc. on Facebook. Visit www.facebook.com/reginacoelicyo.
